Unknown Band

Hey all,I really just have a question as to what this could be.
It's not entirely an emergency,and not an injury persay.
I have a silkie rooster named Sonic,he's registered with the American Bantam Association,and has a leg band.
Now that's not what I'm curious about.
The other day I noticed a bump on his wing,and pulled back the 'fur' to investigate.
He has a sort of gold band that's pierced through his wing.
I've never seen anything like this before,and he obviously had it before I got him.
Does anyone have chickens with these or know what it could be?

The wing band may or may not be numbered. That band in conjunction with the leg band may have been used by the breeder to identify the rooster and his genetic background.
