Just wondering I put some fertilised eggs I had purchased under one of my silky cross broody hens. They had 29 September written on them. I’m honestly not sure if they are progressing. I weighed them today they are all roughly weighing at 27g.

The only way to know is to candle them. I use a phone torch and put the egg on top of the light.

By this point it should be mostly dark, apart from the air sac.

Have you candled at all?
I just had a quick look under the doona it’s daylight atm all black except maybe just Under a third at the rounded end guy I got the eggs off said sounds like she wasn’t 100% broody as she’s getting off them a lot he said he has one day old chicks o could try her with but I’m unsure $10 a chick is a lot if she kills them and I paid $30 for 8 eggs that look ruined

Can you take pics while candling? All dark except at rounded eggs sounds like they’re developing just fine? Eggs that aren’t viable generally light up- eggs that have quit have blood rings or what’ll look like a red blob floating around

Thanks for that I’ve decided I’ll just wait till a couple days after they’re due to hatch as it’s only tomorrow onwards

Welcome to BYC! :frow

Evaporation (change in weight) will take place whether they are actually progressing or not. But out of curiosity.. did you weight them before setting also?

Aside from the date written on the eggs.. how long has your broody been sitting on them, or what day did you put them under her?

On average it takes 21 days to hatch.
