Unusual gifts for the hard to buy for person

[email protected] :

So what unusual gifts have you come up with this year for that hard to buy for person? I have no trouble buying for the grandkids and my adult daughters. My sons are a different story. My husband came up with the idea to go to our local well stocked liquor store and select a variety of beers for our sons. He put them into 12/case wine boxes. Some of the bottles were quite large. And called it the Twelve Beers of Christmas. I'm thinking they may request this gift from now on.

Since I am one of those "hard to buy for" people, I will chime in and say I'd certainly love that type of gift!

I also like getting neat jellys, hot sauces, cocoa mixes, herbal teas, home made goodies, unique jerky, cheeses, summer sausages, and other fun stuff like that.

Last summer I felt compelled to can everything. I have two cases each of peach jelly. strawberry jam and blackberry jam. So I bought some cute christmas material and I'm tying it on the top of the jars for decoration. A nice small gift for folks I want to show my appreaciation too.

I did the beer thing for a wedding gift once...put all the bottles in one of those stainless beverage tubs filled with bubble wrap (to look like ice). It went over well, but boy was it sure heavy...not something to mail.

We made beer this year for some of our gifts. I must say it is mighty fine.

Perhaps next year you might give your sons a home brew kit.

Worth.

Every.

Penny.

I'm also doing the food idea like others and making hot chocolate mix in ball jars and giving them along with homemade marshmallows. If you've never made them, do! They aren't hard, you just need a candy thermometer and a watchful eye!

my parents are hard to buy for, amd with my dad being a diabetic we have to be really careful with what kind of editable gift we bring, (and also he is on a strict diet 1500cal a day he needs to loose about 200lbs)

so this year i bought a digital photo frame with a 2g memory card

I scanned ALL her pics from her childhood, and all the pics from my sister and I growing up and our children loaded them into the frame , I got the model that has audio as well so I loaded her music she likes. She has the option to turn the music off if she wants

I never know what to buy my parents, so I try to get them some practical item that they need but never remember to get (new shirts if my dad has ruined all of his, a new purse if my mom's is worn out, etc.) but this year I am buying them bubble bath and bath salts for their birthdays, cuz the new master bedroom has a jacuzzi, and you can't have a bath without bubbles.

I just go and have a look around my garden, find a plant that could pass for something expensive and chuck it in a plastic sleeve. Also theres the fresh eggs, fruit, vegetables and worm tea. Thats all my cuzzies are getting from me...

The twelve beers of Christmas cracks me up.

I have no solutions for the hard to buy for... I have given up giving away hand made gifts to very many people (read: the whole hee-haw gang). I used to spend weeks/months getting things made, only to have people say "oh". However, I am making this supposedly delish super good hot chocolate mix to give away to those hard to buy fors such as the teacher, music teacher, etc. We'll make chocolate dipped pretzel sticks, and white chocolate covered oreos to put in cellophane bags to go with it for those two. And then we'll have just jars of the mix to give out as gifts to those to whom I want to give a little something (i.e. neighbors).

This is the hot chocolate mix I'm going to try. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Hot-Cocoa-Mix-in-a-Jar/Detail.aspx
