We have 5 one-year old girls - 3 black-barred rocks and 2 RI reds. Once in a while we find one very small egg, sometimes in the nest, sometimes on the floor or in the corner. Should we be concerned about this? Is one the girls unwell?

I wouldn't be worried. When Obelisk gets to the end of her laying cycle, she gives an "odd" egg, be it small, soft shelled, or just a weird shape.

My chickens do the same thing once they begin their laying cycle again after of have gone broody. I would say nothing to worry about.

Thanks for responding! We're new to chickens...we didn't know what to think. We usually feed the weird egg to the dogs
