unwelcomed suprise RANT!!!

We have had 2 foot on the ground since the first of December....got about 5 more inches yesterday. Then the temp dropped to -14F with the windchill of -33F. The kids here have only missed 1/2 day of school due to the blizzard last week. We have amended bus routes for the kids in the country, and the kids in town are expected to walk if they live within 2 miles of school. I guess we are just use to it, it is a part of life here and nothing closes....life goes on!
I am ready for some warmer weather though.....30F would be nice, like a heat wave!

Montana and Tennessee are totally different worlds. You guys probably have snow plows and salt trucks everywhere. I think our county MIGHT have a half dozen salt trucks for the entire county...lol. Of course, we never get more than 2-3 inches of snow at a time either which is usually melted in a couple days. The most I can ever remember is 5 inches back when I was a kid.

Yes it is very different, but I really don't think we have more equipment to deal with the snow! I used to drive a school bus in Bowling Green KY, and I was suprised that they took so many days off from school for a 1/4 in. of snow....I always wondered why they did not have alternat routes for bad weather. I remember when my daughter was in school in eastern WA. they had emergency routes and it was up to the parents to get the kids to them.
The other day my DD told me the reason they do not do that in Bowling Green is because the most poverty stricken areas in the county are mostly the areas where the buses can not travel, and it would be a hardship for the parents to get their kids to a different bus stop. OK, I kind of agree with that, but I drove in alot of those areas and most of the time if the kids would walk 1/2 mile they could get to a pick up spot the buses could get to. Sorry...that is a different rant altogether!

That's the way it is here, too and that's why snow in the South is such a pain. Friends in the north roll thier eyes when we complain about a few inches of snow, but they don't understand the localities aren't set up to handle it. We have to wait for it to melt! We didn't even get mail for 4 days after the last storm.

We normally get less than 10" of snow a year - this year we've had over 35"!

My sister call me bright and early to tell me about the unexpected snow down near Memphis. They were thrilled with another snow day!
I am enjoying sunny skies and warm temps. Still haven't gotten any real snow this year. blah! I WANT snow!

I can totally relate. We normally get one dusting of snow that is gone the following day. This year so far, we have gotten three "good" snows. Two were like 8-10" each and then we got one that was about 3". And they are not going away! No melting the next day here. They are sticking around for weeks. I normally love my job, but not in this weather! It's craziness!!! The kids had ONE day of school last week due to the weather and that was a 2hr delay day.

I am ready for Spring already!!! I am getting ready to buy a 4 wheel drive for work. I think that will insure that we get no more snow this year.
