Hi all, I’m a beginner chicken owner and have only had my 6 for about 2 weeks. The youngest and smallest of them I have had to isolate due to her deterioration in health. She wouldn’t be any older than 2 months and she’s an ISA Brown.

She has had roundworm and I’ve been desperately trying to treat her with nilverm. She was also a wobbly on her feet but the the last 3 days she is unable to weight bear at all falling to her right side. She has diarrhoea, and a little lethargic, however has no loss of appetite. I’ve been feeding her grower feed with the antibiotic in it but she’s just not getting better.

My sister in law is a vet nurse and she showed some pictures to her vet at work who said she most likely has an infection.

I suppose I’m just wanting a second opinion. I live rurally and have no access to a vet for further treatment if it is an infection. I feel my options have run out and no longer want her to suffer.. but to be honest I become an emotional wreck at the thought of killing her.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Could you show some pictures and also do you know how old she is
Is she eating and drinking
Does she have any bumps on the bottom of her feet
Maybe you could put electrolyte sin her water to get her a little better
Is her crop emptying over night
Are her eyes foamy in the corners
Is her vent clean does she have mites or louse
Does she still have worms

Okay thanks, could I just use hydrolyte?

I’m unsure on her age, she’s quite small. I’m thinking no older than a couple of months maybe? She’s eating and drinking well, no bumps on the bottom of her feet, eyes are fine, no mites or lice that I can see and yes pretty sure she still has worms. I haven’t seen any today however her dropping don’t look healthy. The last time I saw round worm in her stools were 2 days ago.
I’ve noticed today’s she’s shaking quite a lot and lethargic, but still trying to get up on her own.

This poor lovely is in bad shape. Her body language looks like Marek’s, but it could be something else. I am not the expert on treating worms, but I believe valbazen treats all of them.

I think hydralyte might be good, but is it effervescent/carbonated? That might have problems if it’s own.

Let’s get some help for dealing with the worms.

Where in the world do you live?
You don't have to be specific...just general area.

Where did you get these chickens from?

Live in streaky bay south Australia. Got them from a local farmer.
When my partner and I went there there was a rooster that looked in similar condition to my Betty (sick chickens name)! But she said he was injured from a duck protecting her young. I didn’t really think twice about it to be honest but now I’m wondering if it’s the same case
