Hi All

We brought one of our white cambell Ducks in last week as she was having trouble standing with weakness on one side - she is eating and drinking fine but now seems to gaining strength back but has started to puff out her chest and her neck is tucked in and she doesn’t seem able to stand normally to feed in-aided. If you stand her up and unfold her neck she eats and drinks happily - she is about 9yr olds - any ideas what’s going on or what to do to help make her comfortable

Very sorry to hear about your duck being unwell. Can you feel her keel and compare it to this chart?

How does her poop look? Is she currently laying and is there a chance she may be egg bound? An egg stuck in the tract can put pressure on the nerves going to the legs, causing paralysis.

A vet would be good if you are able to take her to one.

At 9 yr old is she still laying? I believe even at her age I’d start her on B complex. What type of food do you feed your ducks? I have a12 yr old Muscovy we have to think of them as being elderly and just like elderly they can lack in Essential nutrients. She may have some deficiencies which a vet can address. If at all possible. I hope it’s something that simple.

hi no she doesn’t lay anymore - she eats layers pellets normally
I’ll try her on some vitamins - what food do you give your older ducks

I mix layer in with starter only because I can't buy an all flock in non GMO if you can get an all flock that would be best for non laying birds including ducks. Are you in the US? I'd give her a B complex vitamin Since it has niacin and all the other B's for support. You can buy liquid B complex at TSC or you can buy B complex for humans. Let us know which you decide and we can give you dose.
