UPDATE 9/1/11: New pen addition

Yes, pre-formed pen panels.

I think the easiest thing to do will be to remove the panel on the existing pen, then put the new pen up, making the door panel be the shared wall. That takes care of the problem w/out building anything else. I'll post pix when I've done it. I haven't got the new pen yet, so it will be a while.

Basically, this is what I'm thinking. Pen #1 is existing run. #2 is the new proposed run addition.

Did you figure it out?? I have (1) 10x10x6 kennel that I am wanting to attatch to a 6x4x4 and I have not a clue as to how to do it! I also have to attatch my coop to the outside and cut a whole so I can make the ramp go down into the run....so confused

I haven't gotten the second pen yet, but my plan is to remove the panel on that side of the original pen and put the gate panel of the NEW pen there instead. Then assemble the rest of the new pen off that.

Obviously it will work differently if you are dealing w/ different size pens--esp. different heights. Is one pen 6 feet high and the other 4 feet high? I assume that the existing 4x6 pen has a cover? All I can suggest is to loosen the cover attachment on that side, remove the panel on that end, and then put one wall of the 10x10 pen (the one w/ the gate) there and attach it on as the new end wall. Then assemble the rest of the 10x10 pen.

As for a door to the coop--that's easier. Make the pop-hole in the coop, then just cut a hole in the chainlink at the right place. Using fencing staples (the big ones you nail in), nail the chainlink to the coop.

Not sure if you can see it very well here, but this is the best I have. The door in the coop wall is framed w/ plastic stuff, and the chainlink is just cut and then securely nailed to the wall.

UPDATE:

FINALLY found a second pen! Got it for $50 (SCORE!) on Craigs List and I'm picking it up tomorrow night. I plan to attach it to the first pen as detailed in drawing above--by replacing a solid "wall" with the new wall w/ the door in it, so I can have the door b/t pens open or closed.

My goal is to get things done ENOUGH this weekend that I can put the New Girls in there to ease the introduction process, before tossing them all in together. Eventually I'll probably have to put in sand in the new run as well--I figure it doesn't hurt to TRY to save the grass though, right? It's possible that if I don't let them into that part of the run all the time, and I water and reseed, that I will be able to keep grass in there. It's nice and sunny where the new pen will go.

Eventually I plan to frame the whole thing in w/ lumber to make it all look nicer and all of a piece. But the cosmetic stuff will have to come a little later!

I'll post pix as I go along.
