*UPDATE* First duckling is out but still hasnt opened eyes.

out of curiosity.. at what temp and humidity were you incubating?

i've had muscovys hatch out anywhere from day 33 to day 35..

the batch I have now (in 2 incubators) I have 6 most of the way out of their shells.. and a few more almost at that point .. lol.. they sure do take their time compared to regular ducks and chickens

several quitters though.. shipping wasn't kind to these guys

So...what do you do with all these babies? I want to do the whole incubation thing, but am SO afraid of being stuck with a bunch of babies that no one wants. I KNOW I can eat them, but, I just don't think I can. It seems like the area I am in there isn't a HUGE demand on ducks. BUT...since I have never seen any Anconas for sale around here, I may be able to do just those babies and be able to find them homes.

4/8 eggs have pipped. The first one to pip has made no more progress so I took of the small peice of shell that was starting to break and underneath it there is a white flexible film. Is this the membrane becuase it is very dry?

That membrane is always thick and white- there is an internal membrane that the network or veins is in wrapped around the duckling. That is the one that you dont want drying out or the ducklings cant turn arouns at all inside the egg. Opening the incubator lowers the humidty and can really mess things up for a good hatch.- Did you give the eggs a mist spray before closing the bator up again??

No, should i be misting? I thought misting at this stage does more harm then good.

The first one has been out for a little bit but it has still not opened its eyes. I thought ducklings hatched with eyes wide open.
