UPDATE!!! How to cope......

Aww, I'm sorry.

I lost my big beautiful orange tabby Gus who I raised from a kitten for 8 years last year the same way. It happened right in front of the driveway and my fiance and brother in law both saw it happen. I was devastated to say the least, he was extremely special.

Here he is, I miss him so much still.

The only thing I can say to help is that it will just take some time, as cliched as that sounds. Sometimes getting a new kitten or cat helps to cheer you up and take some of the pain away.
We adopted this big guy from the shelter.

Here's Oscar

He's a great cat and helped fill some if the void that Gussie left.

I agree the guy should have stopped to apologize at the very least. I'm so sorry your son had to see that. Try having a little memorial service for Chance it helps to have closure. And try not to feel guilty, I myself have lost other cats from letting them outdoors but accidents happen and I don't believe cats belong cooped up in a house. We had to keep them indoors for 9 months when we lived in on the 15th floor of an apartment, and the cats, and myself, went crazy. Kitties need to explore and stalk and hunt! It enriches their lives and keeps them happy.
RIP Chance, he was a beautiful boy, and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Thanks to everyone who commented and I appreciate your kind thoughts and words. We did have a memorial for Chance and let all the kids say thier good byes and I think it has helped alot..they kids seem to be coping alot better then I am. I don't think I will ever get over it. Also we have talked about getting a new kitty......I do think it will help the healing process, expectually for the kids.

Raroo...Thanks so much for your sweet comments, Gus was a gorgeous cat. I'm sorry for you loss as well. And Oscar looks like a cutie pie, great pic:)

Aw, that's great, getting a new kitty will help lots. I know how you feel though, I doubt I'll ever feel the same way about another cat, and it took me a really long time to be able to talk about Gus and smile instead of cry. What is it about certain pets that stick to our hearts, sometimes it feels weird to love an animal so much!
I hope your new kitty brings you as much love as Chance did! You'll have to post lots of pics.

CONGRATS ON THE NEW BABIES! They look just like my girl kitty, "Sister", who unfortunately disappeared on April 9th. Also like "Pooh", who we lost to cancer last year. I've always loved those Siamese-type markings and the blue eyes. Again....CONGRATS! No doubt they'll bring lots of SMILES!
