Being in my first year of owning chooks and hopelessly addicted, I made an unwise unchaperoned trip to the feed store during Chick Days. I came home with two gorgeous Sicilian Buttercups and two little cuties from a bin marked 'Mixed Bantam Straight Run.' These banties would still fit in an egg from my Barred Rocks, they're so tiny! They're about 1/2-2/3 the size of the Buttercups, at 5 days old!

I *know* it was foolhardy, and yet I couldn't stop myself...

I can't for the life of me find anything to indicate what the little banties are- I searched high and low...but will have to rely on help from you edumacated and experienced folks out there!

Here are the pics:

...and buff-ish bantam from mixed bin- note the grey specks at the ends of its wings...

Sorry I don't know what they are but just wanted to comment on the cuteness factor!

I did the same thing 2 weeks ago and came home with a Sicilian Buttercup and a SLW.

Arent the Buttercups the cutest chicks!?

Congrats on your babies, I'm sure someone here will have some ideas on what they are.

I can't help but add a shot of the black one next to a Buttercup- it's the tiniest thing ever. I can't begin to tell you how different it is from the giant Barred Rocks that are our only birds up until now!

I'd be tickled pink with Cochins. I'm just hoping now I'll not end up with a roo- I'm right in the middle of a college town of 90K- no roos allowed!

I thought Id share what the progression looks like now, along with a couple of pics of some other new acquisitions...

Here is that black cochin banty babe:

And here is the buff-colored cochin banty- I'm hoping someone can better clue me in on what she'll look like as an adult, since her long feathers are different shades with some dark grey spots.

Here is a silvery poof of Ameraucauna. I have no idea how to determine the coloring on her, because there seem to be a thousand colors out there. The feed store said it was Murray McMurrays, but from what I hear, that doesn't narrow it down a whit.

She's a lovely silver except there's seems to be the slightest golden hint of a "V" on her head. We haven't figured her name out, yet, but Ii think she may be Ophelia.

Next, we have the other Ameraucauna, Dorothy, or Dotty- due to the black spots on her beak, head, back and in from of her tail.

She's just adorable and very quiet and docile.

Here's the dot on her back:

...and here's one that shows specks on her face and beak. The other side of the face and beak is clear.

Anyone particularly experienced with these breeds care to toss suggestions out on color identity?

Also, the black cochin is maybe 2 or 3 days younger than the buff-ish, but the comb isn't even making an appearance-

...and yet the buff has a LOT more comb visible. Am I getting roo indications SO early? I mean, I think they're only about 3 weeks old, if that....maybe 2...

Last, the little Polish that was in the 'sick box' that I took home looks great, and here's a shot of his new wing feathers:

Thanks for playing!!

Do you have a better picture of the gold colored one you think is a buff cochin? It looks like its getting vulture hocks which would make it a mille fleur d'uccle possibly.
