i got a call from my vet tonight. She ran the fecal sample of my new chicken and found she has Coccidiosis. She said it's run on a scale of 1-4 and this hen is 4+. So now she needs to be treated and the rest of my flock needs to be treated, as well as being vaccinated for Pox.

i am feeling at my wits end here and very stupid that i even thought to add an adult hen with unknown history to my flock. My vet is getting meds together for me to pick up Friday, but i am seriously pondering having her put to sleep. i suspect i will still need to treat my flock and then seriously disinfect the coop and pen in which this hen was housed.

Am i being extreme here? i hate the idea of putting an animal down, but it seems that it's one thing after another here with this hen, and i don't know what else she might be carrying. i just got her two weeks ago and so far she has caused serious risk to my existing flock. i love my chickens, they are my pets, and if my stupidity causes any of their deaths i don't know what i will do.

i would appreciate any input on this as i am very confused and overwhelmed.
