i know this is pretty old, but my chicken had a similar wound and it was flystrike

I know this is an old post but the info is useful. Soak her in warm bath for about 20mins to remove poo etc. Use ear buds to gently remove poo and plastic tweezers. Careful not to pull any scabs or skin. I used a hand shower to clean the area. In my rooster's case, it was an abscess that ruptured and the rooster got flystrike. Wash the area carefully with antibacterial wash formulated for chickens and remove maggots with plastic tweezers. Pat dry and put a barrier cream to prevent further flystrike. Check regularly. PS. he went to the vet and was anti biotics for 10 days.
