Update/New pictures 5/5of Star......Meet Star!

I brushed star out really good today every where....she is such a good girl. Daizy was pretty jealous. Daizy kept getting in the way and sticking her butt in Star's face.

I started Star on the purina 60 day challenge today. I am feeding her strategy gx. Star is a really pretty horse and lacking a lot of muscle mass. I have the farrier coming this weekend and the vet coming out on the 20th. Star and Daizy will get shots and have exams. I want both their teeth checked. Star might need extra shots or vitamin shots?

She is def. under weight. She has so much hair hiding it. Her flank area is sunk in my hand fits in that area...I can feel her hip bones they are pretty pronounced when right there feeling them. Also her butt muscle is there but no meat on each side of it same on each butt cheek.

I feel so bad for her....not sure why her current owner did not go brush her all winter or feed her they only lived 10-15 min from where she was boarded at. I wish boarded horses owners would come see their horse and spend time with them. That is what I hate about boarding horses. It is like they are mine. Except the cost. Well I am paying for the 60 day purina challenge because the owner just wants to give her sweet cob. I want to see the difference and get her back too looking nice and healthy.

I think she has potential to be a really great horse all the way around. Star has been her almost 2 weeks now.

I can't wait till I can give her a bath. I don't think her belly needs to be shaved. Why would hair be missing everywhere on her coat? I know she was in with several other horses and picked on. Seems dry and skin flaking a lot too. I thought maybe I should mix some oats w/ sunflower seed oil and give it too her too.

Not that anyone seemed very interested last time I posted pics but I will every week of the 60 day challenge. Here is new pics of Star after 3 brushings and after being on the purina strategy diet after a week. Star has only been here 3 weeks. Daizy and Star's feet were trimmed yesterday. They were both also wormed last week. The vet is coming out on the 20th to do an exam on Star and give shots to both horses. Their teeth will be checked also.

All the lines and streaks are from rain....it was sprinkling here when I took the pics today.

I think she is starting to look a lot better.

how does the skin and missing fur look now? it looked like semi healed up nasty bites and cuts. Im just wondering if she was neglected as you say if it wasn't rain rot or some other skin issue along with it.

I leave my horses halter on when he is turned out and he is ok, but where I used to board him at if they were turned out 24/7 then we will take halters off but if they are only turned out for a few hours or so a halter isn't really going to hurt them. But leave a halter on if they are really hard to catch.

And yes soak the beet pulp.

Thank you! I think so too on both counts.

She does have an attitude and out of these too horses Star is the bitter. Daizy bucks and kicks at star. Star is very easy mannered but I see if pushed she can act up....she likes to rear. When she had her feet trimmed no lead she just stood there. Daizy however she had to have a lead.

My husband brushed out Daizy's tail the other day cause I am too chicken...was in a big knot and she just stood there for the most part. She does jerk and flinch and move. I held her on a lead then as well. Daizy jumps and worried about everything and flinches and jerks her leg nothing trying to hurt us but it freaks me out and makes me jump. He got most of the knot out.

I brush Star's tail though all the time, she is very still.

Did you see the new pics above from today? There is pics from the 26th of March the day she came here, then a week later, on the 7th of April, and then today another week later. Maybe you can't tell from the new pics?

The missing hair and marks she has had have always been healed over. I do think most of it was neglect. Horses biting her. Her whole belly was covered in feces and matted. I got most of it off the first time I brushed, the second time the rest was removed. I did a quick brush today before taking pics. She is shedding a lot of hair. Both her inner hips areas are missing hair and scaly, like craddle cap on a baby or it was. Not anymore. I don't think she had rain rot when she came her and def. not now.

Most marks are still there.....and hair missing still in those spots. I hope it will grow back and fill in everywhere. When the vet comes this wed. I am going to ask him about her inner hip areas being hairless and what can be done about that.

About Star biting....it is only at my horse I see her do it not mean or aggressive to people at all. Unless being pushed to do something she does not like or want to do then she just rears and backs up to get away. Star bites cause Daizy get her butt in Star's face and kicks or to block one horse from coming up to gate, food, or me. I love Star's calmness compared to Daizy's at times.

I don't know if anyone remembers Buddy that big black gelding I was going to get in Olympia. I was worried about my horse trailer being big enough to load Buddy. Well Star would not go in it. We had to get a slant and she went right in to get her here. My trailer was not tall enough and her ears kept touching and freaking her out.

New pics of Start after 5 weeks here and on the 60 day Purina Challenge/Strategy GX.

This horse is amazing and I really like her. Her temperament to humans is to die for. The owner offered to sell her to me for $300 and I may just buy her. The owner has came 2 times in 5 weeks to drop off hay but never does anything with Star. I don't understand people owning horses or any animals and not doing anything with them ever.

She has made huge strides here, from her coat, to weight gain, to muscle mass gained, to so much more physically fit and attitude....well to Daizy anyways.

I have not posted pics in 3 weeks been busy. These pictures are from this evening.
