I don't mean this in a selfish way. But my family is more important right now than my eggs even though I paid for a bunch. My mom called me crying today and her sister is dying, she had a massive heart attack and after the tests today they said there is nothing more they can do. Out of her past quad bypass she only has one working artery left. Well, I told my mom I would drive her to Minnesota so she can see her sister before she dies. We won't be back until Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
My dilemma is that I have no one who knows what they're doing to take part of my eggs out of the bator on Thursday and put them in the hatcher, and make sure they are staying good and humid. If I did this on Wednesday before I leave will they be okay? Then all I'd have to do is have someone watch for the chicks to hatch, dry out and put them in the waiting brooder...Of course that would have to be my spastic best friend who makes a drama out of everything. So I not only am going to have to listen to her make a big scene about part of the chicks not hatching I am also going to be worrying about how my mom is doing during our trip up there and back as she also isn't in the best of health and this is going to drain her.

An extra day or two in the hatcher isn't gong to be a make or break it type of thing. Do what you gotta do as human family comes first. Just set it all up and pop them in before you leave. Have your friend pop in on day 22 or 24 hours after you'd think they'd mostly make it out and put them in the bator to minimize excessive opening and such. They'll do fine for a day or two in the hatcher. Best of luck, sorry to hear about your aunt.

First of all - in no way are you being selfish!

I think they will be fine, and hopefully your friend will take into consideration what all you are going through right now.

I hope you and your mom do OK.

Go with your Mom and let your friend hatch out the eggs. Start writing her detail directions on what to do. And show her how to get on BYC. Desk top the link for her.
We can help her while you are gone.

Sorry to hear the sad news for your family, but it sounds like your Mom needs you now.

I had to leave a day early and just set mine for hatching and raised the humidity. 6 out of 9 hatched. I did leave instructions to add or remove vent plugs based on how much water was on the panels but they probably would have been fine anyway. I was just worried the water might dry up if I didn't fill extra water areas the first day since it's only a little hovabator.

Long story short...Gone 2 weeks...Aunt is living on one artery, Dr.s can't do surgery...Met relatives from my fathers side that I never saw before(FUN!!! and educational)...Lost all my eggs in the bator and hatcher while I was gone, best friend turned the thermostats up because she thought they were lower than what I had written down(cooked 'em) so sad...VERY Happy to be home!!...Have a lot of coop cleaning to do this weekend...Oh did I mention I am happy to be home?

I am sorry to read about your Aunt, glad you are home safe, sorry that you lost all of your eggs.

How did your mom handle the trip? Is she ok?

Thank you...Mom is tired but she enjoyed the trip, got to see two of her sisters and a brother up there. I'm sure she'll be resting for a few days before she gets into other things.
