i bought some silkie hatching eggs from Tom of Kentucky Silkies. i just could not resist those beautiful colors. Set up a separate coop and nest box for my dedicated broody Carmen. i don't think she could believe her eyes when i put her in there. i've been taking her eggs and kicking her out of the nest box for weeks now.

Here are the gorgeous eggs:

Hmmmmmm, that lasted about two seconds. i just went out to check on her and she was sprinting back to her regular coop to sit on nothing. i marked the eggs and moved them under her there. Hope she stays put. Maybe i can put her in the private coop and box when it gets close to hatch time?

Yay for you and Carmen! She looks just thrilled with that nest full of eggs! Hope you get some great hatches!

We are at Day 9 on the eggs. i received 9 eggs from Tom, all unbroken and in good condition. Because one had the teeniest scratch in the surface, probably a hen scratch, i discarded it, just for safety's sake. So Carmen got 8 eggs. And then Flotsen has been faithfully at her side.

Of the 8 eggs, 5 are definitely developing. They are mostly dark, i can see veins and movement. One egg just has one large vein through it. Two look like yolks rolling around. Even though i've incubated before, i decided to err on the side of caution and keep all 8 eggs under them for the time being.

i'm very excited about those five! The one with just one huge vein - does that mean it has quit? And then the two with what looks like just a yolk inside, there were other discolorations, so, is there still a chance? Any advice would be appreciated.
