oh sorry I didn't answer your question about how many months before they start laying eggs sorry! Squirt started laying last October, so she was 6 months old, she laid all through winter, all but one week, then this spring after our two boys got killed when they REFUSED to come back in the night pen she became very broody and here we are today.

I hope your duck gets better. I heard some people recommending on the internet you can get dog cages (very large ones) to put in the males at night. I checked on Amazon a long time ago and they have them for $30 with two day free shipping if you have Amazon prime. There is an one year free trial for getting Amazon prime if you are a college student or a graduate student or a faculty/staff member in an academic university. You can also get it on Ebay. They sell for around $50 still much cheaper than pet stores.
