Update on raccoon-mauled khaki

I went back and read your original post (not sure how I missed it!) about your duck's attack -- I'm so glad Jemima is healing so well!

We've got a duck who was recently attacked, too. He's healing wonderfully, but it was scary! Hurray for their will to survive, eh?!

Now, the most important thing you forgot about... where are the pictures?

I just want to share this, we have bought the Night Guard predator lights the ones that run on solar and flash red at night, well we set up the game camera, to show on the small coop where a mama hen is with her brood, and I have watched this large raccoon keep his head down and walk right passed the coop with out even smelling it, open door with hardware screen to let in fresh air, didn't even walk up the ramp to investigate. I have felt good about this coop being safe but wanted to see first hand reaction to the lights. Looks like they are doing their job.

I hate to be happy but I have seen a raccoon around our house and one morning there was fur stuck on the top of our pen. Ok the happy part I went to the store and their was a dead raccoon in the road across the creek from our duck pen. I'm hoping there are no more tell me they are solitary animals.

They don't hang out in large groups like dogs can but if you had one most likely you have others. They have territory. and a mama can have quite a few babies following after her. I wouldn't get comfortable thinking this is the only one. Make sure your duck house and run is as safe as you can make it.
