Update on...White Orpingtons

I was thinking about it but heard that the white is dominant and I would just end up with crossed up whites. I wish I knew where to get a roo. I would have a pen with just them if I could. I have big plans for my black cockerel but I need to go out and get some pics of things to show you what I have in mind. I'll pm you when I do.

Have you taken them outside to look at the leg/eye color John? They all look great to me, but I didn't look at the leg color when we were there yesterday

Unless legs go through a color phases like feathering
these will be yellow cuz dats what the color is now
(shanks only)

Still nice birds, but if they don't go
back to white then they sure arn't what I was looking
for... Seem no one knows what to use to breed the
yellow out...So they will not be staying around (at this
point anyway)

Ask hinkjc about the legs. She may know what to do.

John a yellow skinned bird does not carry the white skinned gene. I had this problem with some of my Sandhill birds and culled them all. White skin is dominate and if these are the only birds you have to work with you could breed it out. Lots of work though and throwbacks. Are any of them white skinned/shanks? You'll need the white skinned gene.

White orps are most often recessive white. The problem people are having with slate legs is because they're recessive white on black. Usually with white skin but without other genes to stop the melanin in the dermis & epidermis.
