"UPDATE page 2" Sleepy Chicken...Is this Normal?

can anyone recommend medication for worms? She still has some medicated feed mixed in with the grower pellets. Is that enough or should I go buy worm medication?

Lethargy is a sign that something is wrong. Normal hen behavior is very plucky, scratching and active. If I see a hen just standing in the corner or being lethargic I know it is sick or eggbound or something.

For worms, mites lice etc. you can use Ivomec or Ivomec Expri. 1cc per 10lbs. Apply on back of head/neck area. You can also use Safeguard goat wormer(milky liquid)for worms in mouth 1cc per 10lbs. I use safeguard horse wormer but is harder to give dose on. If they have never been wormed then this could be your problem, if not you may want to give an antibotic like Tylan or LA200. Terryimician is only for colds etc.

Thank you chickenannie. The rest are plucky so I hope to figure this out soon. Now that I have come to terms that something is definitely wrong with her.

They are so nice like that. Its a good thing to keep handy. You can get it where you buy feed i'm sure. That web site has a great supply of meds. They also offer chicks now too.

If using Ivemec on laying hens is there a waiting period before eating the eggs? I've heard that some wormers make you wait 30 days but using one that applies to the neck of only certain chickens would be a benefit than treating the whole flock in their water....which I've done in the past.

My beautiful, sweet, 10 week old Easter Egger "Pretty Girl" died this morning. I am so sad I can hardly type this. I feel like I did everything I could do from sugar water, grit, egg yolk with olive oil etc. and every other suggestion everyone made. THank you for helping me. I don't think anyone else I know could understand the pain besides you people so I thought I would write this morning. I just told my 8 year old son who loved her and takes care of all the chickens. There is silence in the house. He is so sad. It is the first time something close to him has died. He is so afraid of anyone dying. My husband woke up before me and found her in their brooder box in the shavings. I bring them in every night from the yard and put them inside and they perch on their box until the coop is done. When I brought her in she tucked her head so deep into the crook of my arm and didn't move. I should of held her for a while but I put her on her perch so I could get the kids ready for bed. I wish I held her longer. It is so hard when we raise them from babies. I have been worrying about her for a few weeks now as you may have seen from some of my posts. Thanks to every one, your knowledge and advice has been invaluable to me.
