Update! Panic! Moody broody may be done, but 4 pipping/peep eggs left!

I feel your frustration! Just do the best you can, and be prepared to accept a less than ideal outcome. You saved one for sure, and it's not hopeless on the others yet, either.

The every-seven-minute-shut-off sounds completely asinine! Later when you have time, you might want to complain to the company. Don't tell them about the eggs, though, they'll just say it's not made for hatching eggs. Just tell them your looking for one made by a different company, that actually does what you need. They don't need to know the details!

Do you have any of those thermo-wrap heat generating pads, the ones like they sell for back pain? I kept a new chick warm almost all night with one of those, once. It was still warm 8 or 9 hours later. I didn't put a thermometer in it though, so I'm not sure how hot they get. Maybe they have a website that'll tell you. They cost about $8, for a package of 2 or 3. But for tonight, you could put them back under mom, couldn't you?

I put the two as yet unpipped under Mom at bedtime (thank God!) But stll have one half zipped that I started helping because zero progress since maybe 10 am. It's peeping and clacking its beak at me, but less than before and white, dry membrane is showing, dried and hard. I've wet that, staying away from the beak. I'm seeing veining still when the membrane is wet, so I'm not helping right now. I'm getting up to check the temp. and reset the heating pad. I'm not looking forward to this night, but if I put it under Luna, I'm afraid it'll get hurt, since the shell is compromised, and she's in 4-day old chick mode.

I'm in for a long night!

I promise I'll get pics up soon- now the camera is missing its batteries as someone took them for the wii remote...blasted kids.

I'm still looking for the cable, too.

I have another chick!! It's huge, even a bit bigger than the 4 day olds. It's no wonder it had troubles. It really started working hard around 3, and launched itself out with 3 pushes...with some yolk unabsorbed. It's got a little red squishy sack at the bum-button site, that I pray will dry up and fall off. It's dried, fluffy, and too wobbly to hang out with Luna and the others, but I'll put it in tonight when everyone sleeps.

The little red attachment is about the size of a chocolate chip, and it's not changing in size. as if it's still being absorbed.

Is there anything else it could be? It's not the vent, and I'm seeing normal poo.

Also, has anyone pics of an unabsorbed yolker that made it? So I can compare the condition?

She's otherwise perfect and currently napping in my bra. I can't go through trying to create incubator conditions with inadequate supplies again...that made me nuts.

Of course Luna has gotten off the eggs that remain, which are starting day 22 now. I have them, too, and hear nothing from either.

I'll update later!

I will keep on checking back to see if you have any updates. This one is capitivating.

I think I'll have to do this, or at least get a different heating pad for the remaining eggs and any future mishaps.

Got any wire cutters and electrical tape? I'd cut the control out and just use the plug to turn it off/on.
