** Update pg.5 Makeshift Bator PIC** Prevailing after slight disaster!

Yay! Congratulations on your new babies!!!! We need pics you know

Ok, panic mode!

The momma left the nest!! I candled and there are babies moving around in most of the eggs, 2 were not fertile.


What can I do??? I don't have time to make an incubator and get it adjusted! Can I just put them under a heat lamp with a sponge for humidity??? Right now I have them wrapped in a towel and have the towel in the brooder under the lamp!


Help please!!

She might leave the nest for 20 minutes or so here and there in my experience. Some of my girls will do that....watch and she may go back. Otherwise, you may need to make an incubator if you want them to survive, but that means you raise them indoor and care for them inside for a while. If mom hatches, she does all the work.

If she doesn't go back to the nest, get a heatlamp set up. I hatched out thousands that way when I was a kid. Thermometer, heat lamp, bowl of water. Remember to turn 3 times a day.

When my Broody Hen tossed eggs out of the nest 2 days after the others had hatched, I brought the eggs in the house, put them in a paper towel lined shoebox with a little bowl of water and covered the shoebox with a heating pad, 2 days later 1 egg hatched, the other eggs were infertile. Two days later I slipped the chick under the Hen with the other babies and all are doing great almost 8 weeks later

My hen left, or rather got trapped off her nest for several hours and came back to sit. Right now we are hatching, 3 are out and fluffy and one more pipped!

The eggs are nice and warm now, I have them under heat with a water source for humidity.

This morning when I found them, they were cold..cold cold. I just candled again and everyone seems to be doing fine and I even have one ready to pip! I can hear and feel it tapping! We will have to see how it goes!
