A little bit a Karo syrup (light corn syrup) will help soften the stool. Too much tho and you'll have the opposite problem. When I make my kitten formula I add 1 tsp syrup per 2 cups of formula.

here are some things that i learned when i bottle fed a kitten from day 3:

1. you can just take her to a shelter - those folks have a ton of experience and already provide round the clock care. my vet didnt offer this and also did not want to take her in -- but i found out later a lot of rescues and some vets will take in orphans

2. if you think you can do it yourself - have you had any luck getting her to potty? if no - and this is straight from an experienced tech and the only reason my baby made it - do this:

run WARM water in the sink - like you were going to wash your hands
hold her in your left hand, bottom toward the running water
hold her bottom under the running water and use your right index and middle finger to rub on her rectum - not pressing hard - and use a back and forth motion quickly. make sure you rub on her rectum and not on her belly. this should make her poop. she might pee first but keep doing it until she poops.

i was worried i would hurt my baby kitten doing this but as soon as the tech explained that momma cats vigorously lick their kittens it made sense. and it worked

if you can get her to potty using this method then you can start using a baby wipe to stimulate her to go.

also after feeding make sure you 'burp' her by holding her upright against your chest and use a towel to vigorously rub her like you were drying her off.

there are also some great websites - search on bottle raising kittens.

good luck!

I wore something with a pocket on my chest and had my little kitten in it pretty much at all times. I also used a moist warm wash cloth to clean its rectum during feeding times. This stimulated the little one to go to the bathroom. You will be able to tell when the urinate ( the cloth will get a little warmer) and the of course they will defecate, Its really important you stimulate the kitten to go.

I would take her back to the vet (like, *now* rather than in a couple hours - they can go downhill so fast).

One thing to bear in mind is that if this is the kitten that has never been doing well, she may have some congenital problem (in which case you may be going to lose her no matter what). It is also possible she may have an infection or infectious illness, though, or simply need more than you can provide at home to get her functioning properly.

Good luck to you both, will keep fingers crossed and think good thoughts,

Pat

Um---VET NOW!!

If using a feeding tube-- you may have inadvertently forced fluid into her lungs, or perforated something....
and constipation in a kitty that small can be lethal... let the vet help!

we raised a puppy from day one -- -- pup only weighed 1 1/2 oz. at birth --

when she became constipated we bought suppositories for infants -- carefully trimmed off a tiny sliver of the waxy suppositories and inserted it -- worked every time -- the tricky part was keeping the bit of suppository from melting in our hands and the 'target' was so small we had to wear our glasses!

that was nearly eight years ago and she is a happy and healthy 7 pound girl --

good luck!
