UPDATE pg2: 12 day old kitten constipated...not looking good - HELP!!!

you sound like you know what you're doing. have you checked for dehydration ? also, something i learned rescueing squirrels is that the beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract may need help. there's a paste you can get for that. i don't feed any animal for one day to allow for hydration and stabilization. good luck to you.

if it is dehydrated,,you could try to give it liguids SQ..either sterile water (like the kind that comes to mix shots)or maybe try lactacted ringers, they work on puppies, never tried it on kittens but dont see why it would hurt to try..

shes doing much better....shes cries a lot, she just wants to be held shell whine until i pick her up and then goes to sleep and purrs and kneeds me. i still cant get much down her. i may take her to my bfs work today. hes a vet tech and i can get in down there whenever i want. the only drawback is that its an hour away so i like to make sure it IS necessary when i go. one of the things they said they can do it give her fluids through her spine. that sounds a little risky to me. doesnt sound like something ud wanna do unless it was ur last option. so idk. what do u guys think? shes doing good except i cant get much milk in her and none of them have pooed yet. they ate about a half hour ago so in another half hour or so were gonna try again for the poo. what would u do? vet or not? im just worried if they do something it could be too drastic and make her worse off when shes doing ok right now, i just dont want her to tumble down hill all of the sudden.

Honestly, if you can afford it, I'd take them to the vet -- kittens can go downhill tremendously fast (especially if dehydration is an issue, and that's something the vet can fix a lot easier than you probably can). (Are you sure they weren't saying they can give subQ fluids *over the* spine, i.e. in the skin on the cat's back, which is how it's usually done).

Good luck, will keep fingers crossed,

Pat

yes, just under the skin,,give just like a shot, but I would give about a tenth of a cc at a time maybe a 15-30 minutes apart.but needs to be body temp before giving..

UPDATE: I just got back from the vet with her. I have to feed her every 4 hours with a feeding tube. she weighs 4.6 ounces or 140 grams......she gets 5ccs at every meal and twice a day gets .05 ccs or two drops of amoxicillan.....i wrote most of this as a reminder to myself lol......please pray for her!!

ok so...shes not doing so well today...immediately after her last feeding she started opening her mouth every few minutes and it sometimes almost sounds like she is hissing, but i know she is not. she seems to be constipated. i think whenever she does that she is having contractions. she gets real upset when you touch her anywhere also. like she is sore. weve stimulated her with warm water in every which way possible and she will only unrinate. we gave her an enema (dash dish soap with warm water). my mom put some sort of mineral up there (she read something about it, but i didnt really ask questions). she also gave her i think an oil or something orally and some water. so far nothing is working. she is napping right now and in an hour were gonna try again to massage and such. im just sure that if we could get the poo out of her she would be ok. you gotta figure she hasnt pooed in about 5 or 6 days now. we are real worried. if anyone has ANY ideas at all please tell me! we are pretty desperate and will do anything not to loose her! --this may sound gross-- but if she wasnt so small i would honestly just reach up there and get it out for her, but she only weighs about 5 ounces or so....so i cant figure out how on earth i would do that...please help! any ideas???? AT ALL????? would be more than appreciated!!!!! maybe even rewarded!!
