Here's a brief history - CoCo is my 9 mo. old partridge silkie pullet who went broody Feb. 14. She insisted on staying that way, so I gave in and let her have 8 BO eggs (I have roos, so know at least some eggs are fertile) and the last 2 she laid. I had candled on day 10 and things looked promising.
Now, my math says 21 days should have been about the 10th of March........nothing happened.
I decided to give them a couple more days and remove them then if nothing happened. On the 13th I started to take the eggs and CoCo went psycho on me! I set the eggs on the floor outside her crate and she jumped out and began to push them back to the opening, all the while screaming and giving me the stink-eye. I felt sorry for her and put them back, deciding I'd wait and see what happened. I figured if she thought they were still good, maybe they were. So, here we are, 6 days AFTER hatch date.......I came home from work early and looked in on CoCo like I always do and -----I HEAR CHEEPING!!!!!!
I look in and, sure enough, I have a yellow fuzzy-butt! CoCo came out to get her snack and I saw a second one still fairly wet, so I know it just hatched, and I can see a pip on another egg!
I'm going to try to get pics later, but DH is out of the country with the camera
, but I'll try with my phone and hope they turn out.....
Just goes to show ya that nature knows best!
Life is good!
