Update-PIP

Good luck

I will subscribe so I can see the outcome, I would not Shake the eggs.........

Shaking causes them to be scrambled!

I don't really think you want to shake them. It could rupture the aircell or yolk.

The Warden,

During the first hatch we didn't know what the eggs looked like before settling out. No starting point.

On day 8 we were suprised to see what we thought was development or things settling out on one side into an embryo. But on Day 14 nothing had changed from Day 8. We thought it was quite possible things had settled before Day 0. This time we shook them into a good clear mix so no settling was present AND also took pictures so we could compare Day 8 to something. Sorry, the photos aren't that good.

Sorry, but I have just never heard of such a thing. I handle mine with kid gloves. To each his own though.

But...SHAKING THE EGGS CAN KILL THE DEVELOPING EMBRYOS! Please don't shake them! If you break the chordae (the white ropy things that hold the yolk suspended) the yolk won't be held in the right position.

hmm, so how do you get eggs to settle if the egg yolk has settled already.

I got this idea watching our chickens. An EE of ours kicks plastic eggs around in the nest boxes. And another Astrolop has repeated been flapping, kicking and rolling in her ground nest to shake eggs. sometimes the others jump in and start helping to shake the eggs.

Thanks. this is very unexpected.

When you collect your eggs, if you're using your own, put them in a carton. Then put a book under one end. Change the book to the other end a couple times a day until you set them in the incubator. Do the same with shipped eggs -- at least 24 hours to "rest". This will keep the yolk from sticking to one side or the other, it's the same reason for turning the eggs in the incubator.

First PIP of first batch (1st Stringer's) seen in upper left egg, #13.

last night i candled (day 18.5) and i didn't notice an air sac. I am sure its been posted hundreds of times - if a chick pips at day 19, might it just be trying to get some air and not hatch until a later time?
