UPDATE: Please confirm AUDREY'S gender page 6 (9/21/11 post)

I think Bianca looks like a boy...but, caponizing on an older chicken is usually not done as far as I can tell from this forum.

Any pics of saddle feathers coming in? If the bird's legs are really heavy compared to the others, it may be a roo. Wait another week or two for saddle feathers. If they are pointy, you have a roo.

Well, honestly, most people here don't really treat their chickens as pets. There are people doing their own surgery, for crying out loud. I'm sure my vet can do it--and WITH anesthesia (unlike the posted article above!).

No sign of saddle feathers. Bianca's legs are no fatter/heavier than Audrey's (and she's a much smaller combo of breeds).

I'm confused as to why there was 100% agreement WEEKS ago that Bianca was a pullet. ???

And could you guys tell me what about her looks like a roo? Where are these hackle feathers? What about her is roo-like? I was comparing her to Svetlana and Clarice last night and other than being taller and scrawnier (b/c she's young and hasn't bodied out) I couldn't see anything about her comb, etc that was different from theirs. What should I be looking for?

Can't you see the curvey tail feathers, that is a boy.
Also the saddle feathers are getting longer than a hen (Saddle feathers: the feeathers that are at the back near the tail).

Well, I sure wish someone had realized this when I asked WEEKS ago b/f I brought him/her home.

ARGHGHGHGHGGHGGH!!!!!

Stance makes me think cockerel. Take a close look at the hackle feathers. They appear pointy, but in some breeds that's just an optical illusion, and the feathers are actually blunt/rounded with a sickle looking coloration down the center. And are any narrow, pointy feathers coming in around the tail/saddle area???

WHERE are the hackle feathers?? Is there a pic somewhere showing where they are?

I'll look at the saddle feathers tonight. I didn't notice any real difference there.

<sigh>

Hackle feathers are the feathers down the neck. If they are pointy its a roo. I am so sorry but "she" does look rooish. I think I see spur points coming on the legs too. Boy I looked at the younger pics and would have said pullet then too.So sorry!
