Update Post 12 w/ pics! Dog attack, left with 1 lonely duck.

Well it has been a long few months since this incident happened and I feel TERRIBLE that it has taken so long. I was checking craigslist every week waiting for something to come along but nothing but a drake or two every once in a while. So I've been spending a lot of time with Jack and she seems to be doing alright and is happy. Even in the spring there was barely any adult ducks in my area that were available only a few ducklings, so we decided that ducklings will have to do... The tough part is that we really cannot take in any more than 2 ducks, and I already have one so that would mean a lonely duckling for the time being.. (Technically I'm not really supposed to own ducks in my area, so I don't want to push my luck with any more.. even though everyone knows we have ducks, no one complains...)

So last week we called up a local feed mill and they agreed to let us take in one rouen duckling, which was very nice of them and they warned us that it would peep a lot and would get lonely. He/She does peep a lot, but it isn't too terrible. She has some stuffed animal friends to keep her (somewhat) company and music playing softly by her brooder for when I'm not around. She is going to be imprinted, no doubt, but I'm doing my best to ween her off slowly. BTW we named him/her Moe!

Moe loves to play outside in the grass! I've brought Jack out with him/her a few times and there doesn't seem to be any aggression.. so that is good! Moe seems to enjoy Jack, but Jack seems to be curious about Moe still. I'll just be taking it slowly and keep letting them play outside with me around of course and I'll see how it goes. Hopefully, if everything goes well, I can introduce Moe to Jack's pen when he/she is about 4-5 weeks (Moe is about 6-7 days old as of today).

What awesome pics and an adorable lil duckling who will eventually be best buds with Jack . Congrats!

Things are going great! I've been letting Moe play outside around Jack, but separated by some screen and today I took away the screen and they were best buds! Moe is actually a little mean to Jack (well probably more curious/playful) but I totally would have thought that Jack would be mean to her at first with her being all broody lately... but they get along well! Jack actually likes to follow Moe around, super cute!

wonderful news!

Glad you got a new ducky. :) and I now see why u didn't call the pund or anything(I should've read the entirety of the posts)

Good luck with it! An older, lonely bird usually will take to a younger one. I had chickens do that on several occasions.
