Hi
I will try to make this short but informative cause I need to get back to my hen.

Okay so I have 4 hens (actually now 3 my favorite Big Momma died two days ago from unknown causes, I found her dead on the floor in the morning) I also one month ago got 2 barred rock chicks.

I have had the chicks in the house for one month then about a week ago moved the brooder and babies into the big coop where they could look at the other chickens but still be seperated because they are too small.

So everything I thought was going okay but then my Big Momma passed away and now my EE Mable is acting really woozy and just standing in one spot. She was even laying down in the same spot that Big Momma died. I have no idea what is going on. I have seen her drink but she is acting really spacy and wierd.

Could starter feed kill an adult chicken if they got a little that accidently fell on the coop floor when filling the babies food?

Could those chicks be sick even though they show no signs of being sick?

I did call my vet and they said I should bring her in the house and keep her warm and watch her.

Should I get those baby chicks out of there, are they killing my flock?

All my birds are or have been very healthy and happy girls I am so worried...

I have to go back outside now but I will be back in a few to check replies.

Thanks in advance

Check them all, when it is dark use a flash light and look for tinnie tiny crawlies. If they have them do a search on here there are many different approaches to mite care.

Is that what you guys are thinking or could it be something else? Could I bring her in a dark bathroom now and do that with a flashlight?

Thats what I am thinking because you dont mention any other signs, food is fresh correct, water good and clean, have you tried vitiams and I have added some plain eletrolytes tothe water before and it seemed to help. Also scrambled eggs seem to boost.

Chick starter feed will absolutely NOT kill your adult birds.
Sending good vibes to you for getting to the bottom of this. I wish I had more to contribute to fining an answer.

I got the chicks from the same breeder I got three of the 4 hens from.....

Food is fresh, water is good. She was perfectly normal until a couple hours ago. I clean the coop often and have never seen little bugs crawl on my arms or anything.

Could this also have killed my Big Momma? I looked her over after she passed away and I didn't see anything on the skin and her comb was bright red before she died.

I am going to go grab Mable and bring her in a dark bathroom and take a look.

I'll be back in a few

Oh I also got the 1 1/2 month olds and the brooder and put it in my shed.

Maybe your chicks had a germ on them that the other chickens are not immune to. Sorry, but I don't have any advice about what to do. I hope your chicken gets better!!
