This is just a reminder for those of you who said you could help with donating. I appreciate eveyone who has agreed. We have had great communication. I have started a blog so you will all be able to see what is going on will post the site when I figure that out!!

Thank you to all that have donated In 24 hrs we have reached the total eggs needed. That is just awesome!!
Hi, I am fairly new to the chicken and quail raising. I am the yearbook sponsor at our middle school. The kids took their who's who pictures here at my farm with the animals. The math and science teacher that was a chaperone has asked me to help out with a educational unit on incubation. This will also follow over into the math part how many eggs and what percentage hatched or didn't hatch! I am fairly new to the incubating myself. I have got my eggs from fellow BYC members. We are a small school 300 in the middle school. 30 in the 7th grade class that will be participating.
We are looking for donations of chicken or quail eggs. I didn't do well with ducks so I thought quail or chicken would be best and easiest. I have 3 styrofoam Incubators I am going to let them use. None of my birds are laying yet they are 20 weeks to just hatched. That is why I can't help with the eggs and am asking for donations.

They are planning to set the eggs March 13th for the incubation unit in class. The would like to have 4 eggs per student so that would be 120. Any Donation of eggs, You could send would be greatly appreciated. The kids are doing a penny war at school to raise money to build the brooder and pay for the supplies feeders, waterer, heat lamps, and feed. We will have money to reimburse for the shipping but probably not enough to pay for eggs

Also, anything we set and hatch from this batch of eggs is going to be theirs to keep, or sell if they choose.

We want them to learn about candling, humidity, pipping and zipping and all that will go on with taking care of them, the responsibilities. This will also teach them percentages and fractions for math.

If any of you would like to help out, send me an e-mail and we can work something out, I am responsible for getting all the eggs and if I have to I will be paying for them out of my pocket. I have already talked to a few local people about some eggs, so I do have a few locals I will be picking up from. If you are close enough to me we can meet up and save the shipping costs, I can do that! I just want them to have a good time hatching and a fun learning experience too!!!

.

If we can receive them on or before March the 11th That would be great. Plan on letting them sit for a day then each child will put theirs in the incubator friday.

For any of you that have signed up to send me eggs, I will PM you around March 2nd to give you a little reminder. After they hatch I will try to post pictures of the kids with their chicks!! This is will be a great hands on learning experince and so much fun!

I am happy to be apart of this BYC family;)

Do they have to be purebred, or can they be mixed? Are the kids' parents on board with the idea of the kids keeping the birds? Will there be any coop requirements that the families will have to meet before the birds go home? After all, just because a kid wants a pet there is no guarantee that they can house or care for it. Is there already purchasers ready to buy the unwanted birds? Will the birds be kept or sold as pets, for egg production or for meat? These questions can help determine who would be willing to send eggs and what breeds would be best.

I changed the title so It has the state. I am in Alabama.
They can be mixed breed eggs. Right now we have 4 that are in the process of building coops. There are 3 actually in girlscouts and this is also going toward one of their badges. Also one boy in cub scouts or boy scouts I forgot what he said. This is going topwards one of his requirements too. He already has a coop but hasn't had chickens in a year. He is the one building a set up for the quail.
The parents that have agreed to keeping them are in the process of having coops built. Or have them.
Parents had to sign a form stating if they will be taking them home or wanting to sell them or give them to one of the 4 that have agreed to care for them. Thanks for the questions. I lwill answer any you have.

I can gather some from my two coturnix hens that are laying (the one just started up yay) however I have to ask my hubby first if it's okay haha (this will be my second give away---I love doing them tho yay)!!!!

I'll let you know! There will probably be about a doz I can send out if so. I'll have to get back to ya tho

If you can that will be great!!;)If not I understand. We will reimburse you for shipping. The 2 feed stores at each end of town have donated one bag each of the gamebird starter and chick starter. So we have started the process with 2 bags of feed!!!

I would love to send you 6 RIR eggs and 6 EE eggs. But you need to send me a PM to give me a reminder, and where to send them to.

Forget to add, no need to pay for the shipping thats on me. I'm glad I can be of help.
