It looks like an extra yolk sac was attached to this chick. Is that possible? It has the normal empty sac attached to it that the other chicks had plus this yolk sac. It has burst and still seems fine.

I have no idea, but they say anything's possible. Cool pix too. Hope your chick does well.

No, probably not. This is usually and indication that something was off, but I can't exactly remember what at the moment. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the incubator having been too hot and/or humidity issues.

Chick is fine this morning except for having a piece of dried "sac" stuck to her. She has pooped. I still have her in the incubator, I don't want to put her in the brooder with the rest until we get this "sac" taken care of. She has lots of energy, is moving around fine and seems healthy.

We have had 7 other chicks hatch perfectly fine, no problems. They all appear healthy and happy and are eating and drinking. We kept our himidity at 60 and then up to 80 the last 3 days, we did what the "book" says to do. And the humidity never went above 80. And the heat stayed at 99.5. And since everyone else is fine I think this may have just been a problem with this egg. We will have to see if we can clean her up when my husband gets home from work. I have a 7 month old so my time is limited and I don't want to start such a delicate project and then have to leave her. If I can leave her in the incubator today so the humidity keeps the "sac" moist I think that's best until we get it cleaned up.

Hopefully she'll be ok.

Updated photos taken this morning, it's hard to get a good photo of it now but it is just a little red glob (sorry, can't think of better way to describe it) :

And of course from other chicks hatching through the night she got pieces of shell stuck to it. I removed a large piece of shell from it and it didn't bother her. I hope this is a good sign.

I'm glad she/he is doing so well. You must have been quite concerned looking at that!

Gosh what a difference. Keeping my fingers crossed for this one.
