UPDATE TO LOST CHICKS

Im just grateful they were located, I wish every post office would have atlest one animal lover, that would take care of something like giving an animal water and keeping tabs on the were they are going.

When my local PO called me, it was 4:20 in the morning. It was around 5 am when I got off work and got the message. I called them immediately and the young man asked me, "please, what do I do? How do I give them water?" It was sweet- I told him not to worry, Id be there in 2 minutes. I drove home like a mad woman. I finally got all their little beaks dipped in water and crumbles scattered on the floor of the brooder.

Thanks! Now Im holding my breath that the replacement chicks make it okay. I dont think I can handle that again.

What I don't understand is that these boxes have tracking numbers and if they don't show up you can locate then immediately. If you have the tracking number, you just go to USPS online and plug in the number and it will give you every way point the shipment has passed.

This is only true IF the receiving post office actually scans the box. Normally, that does not happen. Like someone else mentioned, it is common to receive a box and the only information about the number is that it was generated by the sender and the PO is expecting it. I ship a lot with the PO and have gone round and round with them on it. The problem occurs when you generate the label online (the way the PO WANTS you to) Also, the tracking number for Priority Mail is only a delivery confirmation number, not a true tracking number like Express Mail. I have complained that my customers have no way of knowing that I actually shipped a box if they don't scan it when I drop it off but they say that because the delivery confirmation is done for free online it is not cost effective to have their employees scan the box upon arrival. A bunch of BS but that's the way it is unfortunately.

I'm sorry to hear that some died. At least you still have 14 healthy fuzzybutts!

Glad you finally got the shipment, even though its a heavy loss! These are going to be one hardy set of chicks. For the life of me I cant see how this happens. We have one lady at our local PO that hates to see shipments of birds, as we have shipped some live birds before. My neighbor has been ordering next day air lately, its a bit more but he says its worth it! Also U get a tracking #no.
