Woke up late this morning, went to check the incubator, and heard peeping as soon as I got to the doorway!

I decided to do a trial run with the bator, using my own eggs, not really expecting anything to come of it...just a learning experience really. I thought I'd noticed movement in the eggs last night, but put it off as wishful thinking. So glad I had a brooder box ready as a "just in case".

Say hello to our newest addition, a Mottled Cochin mix...

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of an EE mix and a Silky (due to hatch out today) and tomorrow we'll hopefully welcome 3 more EE mixes (put them in the bator a day later than the original 3).

Already planning the next hatch!!!

Helping the EE egg along at this point, thanks to this post...Intervention. We've noticed when using the EE eggs for cooking, that their membranes are thicker than the other breeds' eggs. It's raising "heck" back at the MC chick everytime it gets loud so here's hoping!

I was really wanting to post this yesterday but had my hands full with 2 babies in the brooder and 2 more pipping in the bator.

This has been the most fascinating,egg-citing, egg-silarating experience for me!

I set three eggs on 11/15 and 3 more on the 16th. I know you aren't supposed to do it that way, so that's the exact reason why I did it. I didn't expect the eggs to be fertile at all so that was also a nice surprise!

Yesterday, I woke up to 2 pips in three of the EE eggs. Helped them out of their shells. #4(Pepper's Peeper) hatched out about 10 minutes before Skip got home from work and I really wanted him to see it happen (will set my next hatch so that it happens during the weekend so he can enjoy it, too).

Now for the pix...

Just won a bid on a dozen Silver Spangled Hamburg eggs, so much for NOT raising chicks over the winter.

Wonder if Skip will draw the line when I start setting up the empty 120 gallon aquarium in the kitchen for the SSH brooder...
