1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Buff Orpington hen; 9 months old
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
This afternoon I noticed that she was making a strange breathing noise (gargling sound), I immediately picked her up and put some water in front of her. She was obviously thirsty. She was drinking a lot, but laying on the ground to do so. She would not stand up and seemed very lethargic. I gave her some poly-vi-sol drops and let her drink some more water. She eventually got up on her feet and tried to walk, but had to use her wings to help keep her balance. I also noticed that her tail was pointing down. Her comb is perfectly red.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
Since this afternoon
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Nothing that I know of
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
She has been drinking a good bit since I found her. I gave her some scrambled eggs and scratch grains (treats) and she ate nearly all of it.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Ive seen her poop once and it was white and liquidy.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
I isolated her inside of the house. I gave her a few drops of poly-vi-sol.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I want to do whatever I can for this sweet girl. If I am unable, I would definitely consider using a vet.
I just got her out of her temporary home inside and took her on the back porch. Shes standing and walking pretty good, but not going anywhere too fast. Shes seems pretty interested in the pack porch Walking around and pecking at the ground. She also ate some more eggs and scratch and had a little water. Her tail is also much more perky.
Im puzzled as to what could have been or is wrong with my Heidi. I want to be proactive and help her if she needs it. Thanks in advance for your help!
