UPDATED 12/12- PIC-VERY GRAFIC I had to amputate

Yeah, that doesn't sound good. Time for that toe to come off. See if you can find any vet to do an amputation. Else like jeaucamom said, it will go septic as it sounds like necrosis.

Don't be pulling the skin off, only for the fact that since it is a burn that it will let bacteria get in...With a burn a moist dressing is best so it won't stick to the injured tissue. My son had a second degree sunburn and we had to slather him with an antibiotic cream and gauze pads to cover the cream.

What kind of antibiotic cream would I use on her? I have been using anticeptics on her feet.

i'd use neosporin or polysporin. whatever you have on hand for people use should be fine.

poor girl.

Did you look at the pictures of her feet? I have never felt so bad! I am just sick to my stomach. I want her to be OK and it was my fault that I didn't protect her from the light. I just thought they would be able to feel the heat and know.

When I was a kid, I had a pet squirrel monkey that burned his fingers doing what I don't know. Anyway, his finger turned black and just fell off after awhile. Back then, one didn't take their pets to the vets. He was fine..... so hopefully, your chicken will do ok.

OK...I soaked her feet in warm water and applied neosporin to her whole foot. I then put gauze on and gause tape.

I hope to hear something from Dr. Peter Brown in the morning.

how is she doing today?

i'm sorry you feel sad about it, i would also, but maybe there is something wrong with this bird the didn't allow her to understand she was being burned. mine are pretty smart and stay away from trouble, except my one blind one.

don't beat yourself up, just try and doctor her up. i would try and avoid soaking it as that might make the skin come off prematurely. i'd just use the neosporin a few times a day, it will come off when its ready. (the skin that is, not the toe.) on the toe, i defer to the experts, if they're saying it needs cut off, it probably does.

The Dr. still hasn't gotten back with me!

Our girl is feeling better. She is walking with her new boots on. I went and bought the animal gauze and it looks like she has cast on. I changed the dressing earlier and her feet actually look better. That toe is still very black but I noticed that there is a bit of pink coming back to her toe nail. Don't know if that will mean anything. One foot is half healed and is looking really good. The other one has more damage to it.
