How does that help?
When you alter them. Sometimes there is a loss when saving to jpeg. Jpeg is a compression format of a file. With music, mp3 is a compression, and there is quality loss.
I really can't explan in my words but my husband took some classes a while ago. It didn't land him in a career but he knows a bunch of stuff from pinnacle studio (pc), final cut (mac) and photo shop. He was a junkie with the software a few moons ago.
I wish he was here to coach me what to tell you,

I googled this quickly so I don't feel award talking about what he knows and not me. I have just had to listen to the preaching when he rants about quality and stuff..

When he takes photo s, he uses RAW settings and saves them to tiff during transition to computer. Then jpeg as the final product only when leaving the computer. He is a fanatic though. Fussie perfectionist.

I'll have to talk to DH about this because my camera automatically saves to the drive as jpeg.

My hubs camera has settings for compression.
He can fit thousands of pics in jpeg comp.
Only like 50 to 100 on RAW/ depending on card size of course.
All the photos are already compressed to jpeg when byc gets them. But after they get touched up, save them to an equal or less compression rate.:)
