thats awesome!! i hope they come back next year so you can get more pictures of them!!
i havent had a broody duck yet, so really cant say how they are
but i have interacted with a broody swan and her man at a farm i used to work at
:barnie
It would be nice to have them show up! I'd love that!:love We'd be very welcoming...every other wild bird in the yard seems to think we're welcoming anyway...lol.

It's good even to know we can save the eggs if we find a damaged nest...although we prefer to mark it and leave a large cut around the nest for her safety and security. It's always best to not have to have to intervene. :highfive:

A swan? Sounds like there's an interesting story there. ;)

Here's some of mine...

This one is Crash and Lady Grey... Lady Grey is the bitey one, lol...

Crash alone...

Lady Grey's daughter, Wickett...

And Wickett protecting her babies from the cat, lol...
Even Lady Grey looks sweet while being bitey :love
And the ducklings and crash...:love The ducklings are so tame...like chicks. :clap

I respected that the wild ducklings would different...they felt safest when they had their chick buddies. It took a long time to before I ever got to see them eat or drink...lol. Nothing like the tame ducks, for obvious reasons...lol.

Even protecting their ducklings...Wickett's still very cute when biting. :)

LG pinches more than anything, it's more bark than bite, lol... but if it was anyone else reaching in, all bets are off... even my other half won't get close to her nest, unless he brings her a bribe... ;)

Call ducklings imprint deep when hand raised, most times... Crash babies are like hand raised with how much she allows handling...

Yep, sounds like you did amazing!!! Wild ducklings are extremely difficult to keep alive, just for the reason of them not wanting to eat while near people... and ducks tend to bond strongly while still in shell, so hatching them at the end of their incubation is chancy... impressive job!! :thumbsup

I think LG would get a few bribes from me then...lol. I forgot to say that I loved hearing the little rooster crowing in the background on the third video with Wickett.
He sounds very tiny. :love

Thank you, that's very sweet of you to say.:hugs I think it was a lot of luck mixed with good advice from some BYC members and some very helpful little chicks who were at the right place at the right time...even though they weren't supposed to be here...lol.
It's always amazing how things work out. :celebrate

:love may i come steal wickett?

it hurt like heck at the time! they try to break you into pieces with their wings and DONT get near their bills! and they can run! REALLY FAST, luckily they dont go far from the nest

it actually turned out sad because none of the cygnets made it, it was a really hot spring and there were a ton of flies and they wouldnt let us close enough to spray around their shelter and we lost all the babies to the flies. I think we also lost Gretel that summer too and Hansel a couple years later

Awwww....they look so graceful. A good disguise apparently! A city in the next province has swans in their park. That's the closest I've ever been to them. So lovely...but I can totally see them being like geese...at the least the geese we had....lol.
