Hey All!

It's a little after 1:00 AM and I just finished a HUGE update to the coop designs page on the main site.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/coopdesigns.html

I did this for a few reasons:

1) To organize the many coops that were previously on one page
2) To add more thumbnail images for each coop
3) To prepare for the submissions from the coop design contest

After many many hours of work here is what I came up with: 3 sub sections / categories for the coops:

Small
Medium
Large

I was thinking of a ton of different categories (e.g., raised, not raised) and settled on a set of categories that will allow me some subjectivity to move coops from one group to another.

I think it came out pretty nice and clean. Please let me know what you think and please make sure you design a coop page and submit it at the following link so it can be reviewed for addition to the coop pages: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=11802

Okay
, I'm finally going to bed!

The Hensleys Coop
Randy Cummins coop

I did post a question regarding the contest for coop designs in another post. Mabey I should have posted it here? Question was how do you enter? I did make a coop page in my personal pages, does that mean it's already entered? And when does the contest end?

Great job Niffty - really helps in finding a suitable coop size/design. I know I initially looked through every link on the coop page when I first found this site and it was a lot more of a "hunt and peck" procedure. The way you have it now is great.

Question - I had submitted our coop design weeks ago. Are the coops you have showing right now the only ones that have been submitted or have you even started posting those yet? I'm guessing mine would fall under "large coops".

Thanks for the feedback! It was a lot of work, but hopefully it will help people find and come back to re-find specific coops.

Yes, it was totally hunt and peck before. When I bought the site I wanted to change the layout of the page but never had time (with all the forum upgrades / work). Well, even though I'm the owner of the site I couldn't find / remember which coops were under which title. The visual representation using the thumbnailed images helps me a TON and will hopefully help everyone else too.

Gracefulspice - To enter the coop design contest post a link to your coop here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=11802

- None of the submissions have been added yet. I was going to start last night, but the first step took much longer than I expected.

The contest will probably go for a bit longer as it takes people a little while to get their pics and pages together.

Looks good! I do think, though, that you should add a section just for tractors. Lots of folks come here looking for ideas for something portable for just 2 or 3 birds.

I was thinking about a section for "other" like tractors, nest boxes, runs, etc. but there just weren't enough on the existing site to make a whole page of them. For now tractors are in the "small" coops section. I'll put tractors into their own section if there are more submissions in the coop contest .

I LOVE the thumbnails you added! That is so much better than having a long list of just the names. I think it will help new people that are coming to the site for the first time. It was easy for me to take a quick look for new coops that were added since the last time I checked it out, also.

I already have a large and a small coop, but I feel the deep down need for another one, anyway.
