I love the coop! That gave me ideas for ours as well (I really love the little brooding area built in).

You mentioned painting the coop, but I just love the natural wood appearance. I love a rustic look. It would be plum gorgeous with just a clear coat!

I especially liked the touch of adding the Red Rooster Inn signage. Absolutely adorable.

Thanks <g>.

I have no plans to paint (not sure where I said that, but I may have, LOL.)

I got the second part of the new coop done today, just one more cell to go. (then I can go buy more chickens, LOL).

Great job! I have a feeling I'll be adding on another coop next year.......This is just such an addiction!

I got the building used - it was a repo - at one of those wood building sites (they sell garages, tool sheds, etc..) I paid about 1200 for it - quite a bit, but I was in a hurry to get chickens, LOL. The new coop, we figured it up last night, is costing us about 700 total and it is bigger, but we're doing it ourselves.

The tool shed I bought for the first one was bare bones - we did all the extra stuff (hubby HAD to build a porch on it, LOL it does look good, though, I must admit), and the chicken run was interesting to build.

The chicken coop was the first building we did for farm buildings - we had been living on the farm for a total of 3 weeks, LOL. We were gonna build one, but then we passed the wood building sales lot, and decided to stop, and we saw this one for cheaper than new, so we just bought it and had them deliver it. I think the place is called Backyard World - they have dealers other than the guy we bought from.

Poor hubby is going on strike after this one is done (at least until next spring, he says, LOL). We still have to finish the third cell and put in the electric. We'll probably set up the lights and electric inside, but not hook it to the power source until later in the year - I don't need power until it gets really icky out anyway, for lights and heat lamps. I have a couple of months before it becomes critical to have power.

We moved down here from Michigan - not sure he'd want to go to Wisconsin for any reason, LOL - we don't miss the cold at all.
