Well, we like our neighbors, and they are also relation to my bf's husband, so we want to keep things pleasant. They have always had a pitt bull and a St. Bernard... Never any problems with them, even when they would take the occasional trip away from the farm. Then they got a husky.

This husky started taking the pitt bull on hikes off the farm. She is a hunter and they have told us "yeah, she's killed the other neighbors chickens, and she brings deer and rabbits, and all kinds of dead animals back."

So, I told them that she keeps coming up to our place, and eyes up our animals, so please keep her down at their farm.

Well, this morning my dogs were going absolutely ballistic. I went outside and caught the husky IN the pasture with the goats, alpacas, minis, and my mare and her colt

The husky was stalking & deciding, so luckily I went out when I did! My animals aren't afraid of dogs because our dogs know better than to chase the horses or any body. She jumped out of the pasture, and I followed her. I nelt down and almost got a hold of her, but she decided to go back to to her farm instead. I went right down and told them what had just happened, and I know it went in 1 ear and out the other... I got "yeah we tie her, but she slips out of her collar sometimes"

The dog has always had her collar on when I have seen her, including today. Apparently I look like a complete idiot or something

I have decided that I'm going to start trying to catch her when I see her. They said if I see her again, I should shoot her
th.gif
That will need to be done by my hubby, if it comes down to that - I want to catch her, and make her "disappear"... Take her to a husky rescue, so she can find an appropriate home. They don't want her, but she is their sons (who doesn't even live there anymore) dog, so they won't just give her to me. At this point she is my problem AND theirs. They may not want to solve the problem, but they don't have anything to lose if she keeps "getting off her tie out".

Any suggestions other than making her disappear or SSS?

Unless you offer to make a dog run that's 20 feet long by 10' wide and 8 feet tall that has a concrete block wall buried 3 to 4 feet down to prevent her from digging her way out.

That's the only way I can see them keeping her without her disspearing or doing the triple SSS.

I would let them know you will do that if you have to, but you would much rather they take care of their dog, since it is their problem, not yours! If you are forced to deal with their problem, you will definitely be bringing them a large bill for all the damages along with their dogs body!

Will animal control get involved? Perhaps they can impress upon them whose responsibility it is to keep their dog home?!

Your neighbors are stupid, and you can't cure stupid. Remind them that they will be financially responsible for any losses. Also, remind them that letting their dogs roam will cause hard feelings and grief. If the dog comes back, shoot it or take it to a pound or rescue.

I would catch it and take it to a rescue or a no kill pound. Obviously they dont want it so it sounds like you would be doing everyone, including yourself, a big favor. I personally would not hesitate to shoot if it was in with my animals.

Maybe you could have a friend go to the house to ask if they wanted to get rid of their dog and could they have the it. They could make up some sob story about wanting a huskey and not being able to afford one and how they saw this dog and... Then you could take it to a rescue if the dog is relinquished in that ever so slightly deceitful way.

My daughter said she'd heard that lots of huskeys are bred back to wolves and can still be registered as huskeys, determined by the percentages. I would imagine this would make a huskey with an extra large prey drive. Could this be the case with this huskey? If he's killing wildlife wouldn't this family be liable for letting it roam. What would the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife say or animal control? Can you call anonymously?

I don't believe you can register a wolf/husky hybrid with the AKC. Actually I'm sure. It must be another registry.

Take it to the pound if you can catch it. Shoot it if you cannot.

Remind your neighbors how much a dead alpaca or foal can cost.

She isn't wolf bred... I actually have a friend who does breed wolves - they do use huskys in that type of program, but they are nothing like this husky. I know this is normal behavior for a husky - roaming and hunting - it's just aggravated by the fact that they allow it to keep happening. I've talked to a couple neighbors, and have been told that they have seen this dog literally miles away!

I did mention the fact that my colt is in that pen (who is only 2.5 months old), who is worth $3000.00, and I cant have their dog biting him and making scars, let alone kill him. I don't think that they really care because, well, as I have been told before, "it isn't their dog"

I don't want to cause them any extra grief - Mr & Mrs have a difficult enough time (that's a whole-nother story), but I guess if it comes down to it, I'll have to call animal control or somebody. DH is prepared to shoot her if he needs to, but we simply don't want it to escalate to that point. I guess I'm back to making the dog disappear

I'll have to carry a piece of bacon with me next time. Their dogs are fine with people, and the puppy is just adorable - she's coming to our house if they'll give her up - sweetest thing ever

Anyway, I am just trying to find the best situation for all of us, without heart ache for me (losing my animals or having to shoot the dog

)

I would be out stringing more electric fencing right now if it wasn't for the stinkin' rain! Our electric fence box is made for WAY more fencing than we have... It does not feel good when you touch it. I think that'd keep her at bay for a little while anyway. Wouldn't mind a video of her touching it the first time (sadistic, I know

Since you want to catch it, try using your car. Open the door and offer it a ride. I hear that usually works well. You could try dog toys. See if you can get it to fetch to you (Ok works better for retrievers than huskies, but still worth a try). Maybe you could get it to bite on a tug of war toy. The dog is probably always going to be faster than you, so trickery is in order. Do note, if it is in kill mode- don't mess with it. Have hubby kill it. It is not worth the risk.
