I hope so too Heather, for your sake!

But you know, one really does eventually need a rooster! Just to keep pesky overly inquisitive cats at bay if for no other reason. And if you want more of these cute little fuzzy butts in the future, nothing beats incubating your own eggs, either with an incubator or a broody hen. I waited nearly 4 years to get my first roo...now I have one adult that was given to us (the love of my life!

) and eight more little boys in the brooder!! Never fails! Just my luck! From drought to deluge, famine to feast!

They're all looking terrific Heather! Keep up the good work! I fully expect to see pictures of pullet eggs in another six months, give or take!

In defense of all roo's everywhere: They're not all that noisy. Well, OK, so there are some exceptions to that statement, and those are the ones who give the rest of the great roo's out there a bad wrap! (The "long crowing" breeds pop to mind most readily) But for the most part, most roosters are quiet for the vast majority of the day.

Griffin, for instance, will give about 3 hollers first thing in the morning and then that's pretty much it for the day. Unless, of course, you count the number of times that the DH goes over to the chicken yard and provokes Griffin into a crowing contest with him!

Otherwise, Griff doesn't give a peep of noise unless there's just cause to do so. (i.e. warning about the hawk overhead, the dog trotting down the road, the snake that just slithered by in the tall grass) He's a good and quiet boy. And he is by no means the exception to the rule. Most roo's are this way!

So, if you did get a roo by accident in that little flock of yours, count your blessings! When the time comes, you'll be so happy that you have him. If there's not a boy in the bunch, I have eight that you can take the pick of and I promise you, any one of them would be a great little man for your ladies! They're sweet and loving and I insist on daily cuddles with them, so you know they're well socialized!
