That's the only way I sex my light bested birds. A beer...try several!
I can't say about the tux, but looks like only 1 100% hen in the bunch. Just my best guess.

They are lovers of perpetual sameness!
It may be getting cliche, but, totally boring, is way to much excitement for coturnix.
Get them into a routine. Stick with it for a few years, and you will have no problems.

This is so true that it's not even funny. At one point I had most of my hens stop laying for a few days because I changed the direction their supplemental light was coming from.

Absolutely! I don't want people to get the impression that coturnix are hard to raise because they are not. They just need a relatively stable environment, same feed...I mean the same feed constantly (what ever the protein level) and preferably high protein (Game Bird Feed). They are not avian garbage disposals like some of the other genus/species are.

Unfortunately the cure for feed related egg loss can mean prolonged egg loss. There is no such thing as an egg laying ingredient for coturnix. The right diet, pen space, clean water, dust pan are factors in good coturnix egg production. It also helps if you have more hens than roos, but that is another story.

P.S. : Correction. I meant a few months, not years. Silly me!
