Updates on hatch!

Take the needle and make the opening right up against the shell and use the shell as support so you don't slip and poke the chick. If your hands are shaking use the blunt end of the needle, it's sharp too. Just open it a little bit and remove a bit of the membrane so there's a little hole. Hang on, I got a pic I took last time I did this with a duckling. She did a good pip, so I removed the loose bits of shell.

Thank you. I did just that, but I saw blood, so I put her back in the bator, so hopefully, she will be able to do the rest. With the other chicks, they pipped a few hours ago, and haven't started unzipping yet. Do I need to make an artificial zipline? I know how, so... Yeah.

I got blood with the duckling too, just dabbed a little cold water on it with a Q-tip and made sure it stopped before I replaced it. I had to open quite a bit of the shell for that little ono-noo to hatch, but it did, by itself, nearly 3 days later! Chicks don't need as long, thankfully! If there is blood in the membrane she's not ready to hatch, so leave her for now. Next time you go into the 'bator can you snap a pic or two of the hole so I can see what's going on in there?

O.K. she'll be o.k. like that for a bit. Is she talking to you? As long as she's talking she's breathing and that's all she needs right to do right now.

All of my chicks needed assisting... I got their beaks into the air so they could breathe. I am going to leave them for now. I can still see blood veins in the inner membrane, so when the veins appear transparent, I am going to slowly and carefully take that off of the chick. After that, they should push themselves out of the shell.

P.S. I know what I am doing. I did the same thing with my gorgeous young rooster, Pete.

Good luck!

Yay!! They are almost out of the egg! One of them has a wing sticking out, and the other has a face and a foot sticking out. I think they will be out of the shell very soon! The other one is still taking a nap. I am filming the two hatching, so I will send you the video as soon as I am done!

Thank you for all your help, Sumi! You were SUPER helpful!

One hatched! A beautiful chick!
One of the other ones is struggling to get out, but there are still veins that will bleed if ruptured, so I am not going to touch the little guy until it is all absorbed. But the poor little guy is struggling so hard to get out of that shell.
The last egg, who was the first to pip, isn't struggling at all! Every once in a few minutes he will wiggle, but not much. But he is definitely still alive, since I can see him breathing. He, too, has the unabsorbed blood in the veins.

I want to help the little guys so badly, but I know I can't. They will be much better off if I leave them.
How long does it take until all the blood is no longer in the veins? So I can start tearing it away to get the chicks out?

Please reply ASAP!
