Hey everyone who’s interested in random stories and clicked this thread because they were interested in my life!
So... I might have told a lot of people here and there about my chicks coming in April... then it got delayed to March... then to June... then September....
So here’s the story if you’re willing to read all of this.
It all started in January, when my dad suggested we get a new pet that were actually “useful”, like chickens. He thought it would be easy, you know, just buy some chickens, feed ‘me grains and leave ‘me in the backyard to fend themselves. I hadn’t thought much of it, and I guess they forgot about it. Until March rolled along. Back then, I was still the same Animal Geek I am today.
However, I hadn’t taken that much interest in chickens, just thought they were cute, and all. I was on vacation in D.C, when I suddenly remembered: CHICKENS. I’m an animal researcher, so I just started researching the second I got home.
.....
And... as for all of you... I GOT ADDICTED AND I FELL IN LOVE. I HAD NEVER KNOWN CHICKENS COULD BE SO AWESOME!
I WANTED ONE. Right away. I researched hatcheries, found this awesome website which really enhanced my knowledge, and I made a PowerPoint to present to my family to get them more interested. I was really hopeful and desperate that my parents would agree to get one.
However........
During the journey of studying poultry, I have become more interested in other animals like pigeons or rabbits or goats. There was a phase when I would panic about whether I should get this animal, or this animal, or chickens.
Soooo, I presented to my parents with my sister, who was also interested, and... they agreed. I was so happy.
Even if they hadn’t thought that caring for chickens would be that complex, they were surprisingly pretty open to the idea. Unlike the time I suggested getting a dog. Or a cat. Or a snake. Or a bearded dragon. Or a parakeet. Or... yeah.
So, I presented on the last few days of May. When June rolled around, I kept on thinking about it, but things got in the way. I was really busy, we’ve never talked about it again, but I know my parents will get some.
Also, a bit of background info, I’m going to my other house in the other side of the world from July 24th to September 6th, so we couldn’t get chicks during that time.
We couldn’t get them in June, either, because they’ll only be a month old when we leave. I didn’t trust the idea.
I. Was. Pissed. I’ve been planning on this for months, told my BYC fellow people that I’ll be getting them soon... I hated telling you guys I’ll get my chicks soon, or they’re getting delayed... I JUST WANTED TO GET THEM AND POST A PIC SAYING “FINALLY THEY ARRIVED”! But I can’t. Not until September or even November. Been planning on this since March.
Sometimes, when life gives you lemons, you have to wait to make lemonade because you don’t have the darn right ingredients or time to make it. But at least you’ll know the lemonade would taste good.
So.... that, my fellow BYC chicken lovers, is my waiting story. The complete thing.
It felt good to let it out!
