Upright Egg Hatching

I've noticed that some people will keep their eggs upright (broad side up ofc) in cartons all the way up to, and through hatch. I had always thought this would make it difficult for the chick to get out of the eggs. Would anyone happen to understand the motivation for this?

I don't hatch that way but from posts on this forum the concern is usually that the first chicks to hatch play rugby with the late hatching eggs. They are worried that the eggs rolling around will harm the hatching chick.

Some people think it's better for shipped eggs to stay in cartons. Some don't want the chicks rolling eggs.

Myself, I'd have to have an extremely compelling reason to do that. My philosophy is having nothing in the incubator that will interrupt airflow to/around the eggs. Also, I wouldn't want them upright to hatch like that, and have to fight their way free of the carton.

I don't hatch that way often but when I have it worked well.
