Sorry to hear that your EE is dealing with this chronically. It was comforting to read that it isn't automatically a death sentence, though. Every time I notice something wrong with one of the girls I automatically think "She is going to die!" so to see all 8 acting weird last night had me feeling sick to my stomach
Is her crop always full and hard in the morning? I was doing some reading and it sounds like pendulous crop isn't really fixable and usually just keeps getting worse. That you've been nursing her with this condition for so long is amazing!
So glad to hear they’re doing better this morning! Anytime something is “off” I automatically jump to “death sentence”, too. I can’t imagine all of them being sick at once! What a terrible feeling! I’m slowly learning they’re pretty hardy little buggers, but every day is a learning experience.
Tilly had surgery last April, then was flushed in June. Since then, gets a massage every morning and it’s always full, just varying degrees. Currently she’s pretty doughy, and I’m pretty certain she’s had a screw in there since October. She’s also very saggy, but I’m hesitant to put a crop bra on her when it’s so cold as I don’t want to interfere with her ability to get warm, even though it really seems to help. I’ve accepted a certain level of full, but there are times when she’s worse I’ll bring her in for a night so I can massage her every couple hours & make sure she’s pooping. Like I said before, we know she’s living on borrowed time, so every day she’s alive-and seemingly happy!-we consider a gift. I know they’re livestock, but for us, they’re pets too. It’s hard to know when to say enough, so we’ve decided as long as she seems healthy otherwise, we’ll just manage to the best of our ability until she dies or we have to put her down.
Just FYI, we treated her for worms & coccidiocis in October. Our vet also suggested adding 1 tbsp ACV /gal water for sour crop. I’ve also started fermenting their feed and give them plain Greek yogurt occasionally, just to try to keep the good bacteria happy!
Sorry for the long post, but please keep us posted on Annie & the flock!!!
