UPS broke my Dickey Hatcher. Dial up warning FINAL UPDATE pg 11

Wow..... I am SO SORRY that someone is doing this to you. I honestly don't really blame this on UPS at all, I think all blame is pointed at the seller. She could have easily sold you it broken, and or it got broken in her VERY POOR way of packing it. A total shame that you're hte one hurting because of their lack of care/laziness.

I do NOT think it's fair at all that she's basically telling you it will be $10 to fix..... bull crap....and even if it is, YOU PAID for a good hatcher, not abroken one you have to put MORE into. I hope she's reading all these responces because that is NOT how you do things as a seller.

Sad to say but sometimes with ebay and paypal you have to send the item back in order to get a refund. I got a saddle that was damaged one time and it was just not worth the hassle to me to find a box and repackage truck all the way to Clarksville and then hope I actually got my money back I just took a lost on that one. However if you put not as "described" or arrived damaged then you should not have to send it back and should get a full refund including shipping. At least that is what has happened to me with my sending things over seas or even here in the US if someone got things damaged in the mail even with a bubble wrap containers this can and does happen, lucky for me only a few times. Let them know you are already out of more money than you had intended for a non-working unit and can not afford to put out anymore on it. As someone else stated they are a fellow BYCer so we all need to remember there is always three sides to a story.

that is a bunch of bs!! u didn't ask for full refund includeing shipping u shouldn't have to ship it back and if so it should be at their cost. DO NOT respond to anything off of paypal keep it all there for paypal to see. if they have replied through paypal escalate to a claim so paypal steps in and let them decide the outcome. do not agree to anything that will put u out at all!! keep copies of all emails and anything related to the claim and keep it open and give paypal all info.

I wrote a few posts back that you should make them pay for the shipping if they want it back..

did they not charge you for shipping when you wanted it??

watch out for the "shipping" scam.
something is starting to stink, here..

I agree with what everyone else is saying. Make sure you have escalated your claim with paypal and let them handle it. My sister bought a cell phone off of e-bay and it was not as described. The seller had to refund her purchase price and the shipping she paid to have it delivered to her plus the shipping to return it to him. Make sure that all your conversations with the seller from this point on is through paypal.

UPS will package it up for a fee..

I cannot believe UPS will not pay the damages.. what the h--- is insurance for?? If it was not packaged correctly, UPS should not have accepted it for shipping in the first place... and if UPS tore up the box so badly, 2 inches of bubble wrap would not have saved the contents.. I personnally believe the bator was shipped out just as it arrived.. broken..

I would check deeper to see f the insurance actually was purchased by the seller.. sounds like a scam to me.. you pay shipping and insurance twice, they pocket what they can and refund the purchase price.. they still make over a humdred dollars.....????????

can't u call ups and ask them if a claim is filed for it and if insurance was purchased? i hate to say it but it sounds like a scam to me, something is just not right here.

my mother in law purchased a cam of ebay and it was shipped ups. it was stollen off her porch were ups left it. it took 3 mths for ups to compleate their investigation and refund the money. the seller still pocked all the money.

ya know i'd ask for in writeing proof ups won't cover the claim and why and if it can't be provided i'd not believe it. i'd not take someones word on that one.

I plan to call UPS tomorrow and see what I can find out. In my original call to UPS to report the damage I was told it had been insured. The seller now has 10 days to respond to paypal for the dispute I have filed. I have a feeling this is going to drag out

Even if the seller didn't purchase additional insurance UPS still insures for up to $100. The problem is UPS is saying they are not liable because of poor packaging. They had no way of knowing it wasn't padded inside the box. I checked the strength of the box ( as printed on the box ) and the corners of the box was not sufficient for the weight of the hatcher. It is the shippers responsibility to use correct packaging materials.

I got a response from Mr Dickey. He says the broken internal parts can be replaced but as far as the cracked and broken wood and the door not lining up he said I would be better to contact someone locally who does wood work and see if they can fix it.

I am not going to contact the seller any further, I feel they know it was packaged inadequately and they are trying to pass blame. I have kept a copy of every email I have sent them and received from them so they can be forwarded to Paypal if necessary.

I'm really upset that the seller would expect me to ship it back at my cost, knowing it would cost over $100 to do so, and they think a $10 fix would be ok. I was well within my rights to ask for a full refund plus shipping but only asked for the cost of fixing it back to the original state it was pictured on ebay.
