UPS broke my Dickey Hatcher. Dial up warning FINAL UPDATE pg 11

Good for the seller. S/he can do just that when you get a full refund and they get it back. Then they can "fix" it for $10

and resell it.

How much did Mr dickey say the internal parts would cost to replace? If what you have pictured is the extent of the damage to the cabinet, that could be fixed in minutes with some wood glue and clamps.

I think the scam is with UPS and their insurance. They do not disclose anything about proper packaging when you take an item in to ship and ask for insurance. At least they never have to me. Also I have shipped items through roadway and had no packaging at all and they cover the damage when the item fell off the pallet and got dented. This is just UPS collecting extra revinue in my opinion.

I don't think the seller is responsible at all here. Their is no reason to assume that you have to package something to the point that it could withstand a 50# blow.

I just called UPS. They have closed the case and will not answer any questions I have. I spoke with a supervisor who said I would have to speak to the shipper.

I repeatedly asked how they could close a case when nothing had been resolved, it was UPS saying they were not responsible end of case. Again I was told I could contact the shipper and they could dispute the case if they wanted. I asked about the oil damage to the box and oil on the hatcher, they said the CASE WAS CLOSED and could not discus it with me, only the shipper.

UPS is taking NO responsibility in any way shape or form even though additional insurance was purchased and the oil that was soaked through the box and onto the hatcher was clearly from shipping with UPS.

So sorry you are having to go through this

If it wasn't packed per their rules, they won;t do anything about it.

It's a shame the seller didn't package it appropriately.

I sure hope you can get some resolution..... what about having the seller pay for the replacement parts from Dickey or send a prepaid postage sticker to you so you can return it... seems only fair since you already paid for postage to you.

I asked the seller about paying to have it fixed to the condition I bought it. They said they would have to see, and said if they had it in front of them they could fix it for about $10, a screwdriver and 20 minutes of their time.

Mr Dickey can ship the parts needed to replace it but since the wood on the front of the cabinet has been broken, split and is out of alignment he suggested to take it to someone who does woodworking to see if they can replace/repair the cabinet frame.

I just called UPS again and finally got some kind of answer.

UPS is saying that the packaging used by the seller did not meet the UPSguidelines for shipping. It is up to the shipper to meet these guidelines when packaging a box.

There was no padding of any kind, nothing to protect the hatcher other than the cardboard box that was cut to size and taped to the hatcher. They also stated the box used did not meet the requirements for shipping something of that weight by almost 20 lbs.

As for the oil on the box and hatcher which was something that happened in shipping I was able to file a claim for that and will be contacted further.

So bottom line, if you don't package per UPS guidelines then all insurance is void.

I have filed a dispute with Paypal, the seller still has 9 more days to make their first response and it will go from there.

**EDIT** to add that it just gets better and better.

UPS just called me about the oil on the box. The lady said she just spoke to the driver and he does not remember the box having any oil of any kind on it, and if it did it would have been all over him and his truck. He delivered it 2 weeks ago tomorrow.

I explained that the box was very large and weighed 70+ lbs and the oil had soaked through the box and onto the hatcher so it wasn't likely the driver would be covered in oil or the truck either. She tried to tell me again that the driver would have gotten oil on him and he says he didn't see any oil. I again told her that the box was nearly 3 feet long and 2 feet wide so depending on how he carried the box and since the oil was down low and had soaked through on one side it was unlikely he would have gotten covered in oil. It was like the entire giant box was covered in oil.

She said she was very sorry but continued to talk in a way as to say "the driver doesn't remember any oil, and he would have so it didn't happen" I told her I called UPS the same day it was received from UPS to report the damage and the oil and had immediately provided photos of the box and oil. She told me she was sorry this had happened and to have a nice day. So I quickly asked what was going to be done about it. She said that the claim was being processed and they would be back in contact with me.

Moral of the story UPS has lost me as a customer. Regardless of how the box was shipped originally their handling of the entire situation stinks.
