Welcome to BYC from middle Tennesseeas @Pyxis said, be sure you know your source(s). When in doubt keep them separate for a month.
Welcome to Backyardchickens.com aka BYC!
We are so glad you joined our flock.
This video will help you learn how to navigate this site:
I'm in Albany, NY and new to this site. How do I navigate to the NY Chicken Lover Thread??
Thanks, Dark Sider. I imagine everyone will say that their birds are disease free, and I know how to tell a healthy animal from a sick one; however, how would one know with fertile eggs that you get shipped? Or would you recommend against that?
One member is advertising on the site and she is going to enter her breeder in competition, so I easily assume she has a clean and healthy product. I'm not quite ready but after looking at her animals in the pics... I want to order. Just not sure what to do if I have grown noisy chickens in my apartment before I'm ready to move! LOL (no doubt management will come to investigate complaints about chickens on the 12th floor!)
Looking forward to learning and making friends here,
DD

Generally you are okay with fertile eggs, although mycoplasma gallisepticum can infect the embyros inside eggs before they hatch, but that's not too common.
If you're looking at doing eggs and are interested in Easter Eggers and frizzles, let me know, I breed themSince you're not too far it wouldn't be a long journey for the eggs, either.
