I have an issue I would like to resolve with your help-My 3 hens ( 2 BO and 1 RIR) and 1 BO roo ( featured on my BYC page)-are laying 3 eggs a day--I swore I would not incubate anymore eggs until we had moved all chicks out of house I'm halfway there-( I have 1 -1 week old duck in a bathroom brooder) (8-2 week old silkies) in the bathroom brooder-(15-2 week old chicks-EE's-wellsummer-polish -Bo's in the huge garage brooder) and 2-7 week old BO roo and pullet in another brooder in garage-I also have a 8x8 coop with a 20 x 10 run we pretty much finished this past weekend-theres 10-13 weekers in there but Im giving 3 to a friend this week-I know I have alot-but they are all very spoiled-I am more than willing to sell all Roos-except the 7 week old BO roo-so sweet and gorgeous to replace his nasty father this fall-I say that there is enough interest to sell the roo's for 5$ a piece? is that too much? Also, I said if I can't sell them or have people interested enough off of this site that I would list on Craigslist and sell them off- DH does not think I can get rid of them that easily-I never said they would go in a week-I said it may take a few weeks but they will all go. Heres another problem-I keep taking my hens eggs and throwing in the bator! I can't help it-I'm sick and need rehab -rehab -rehab I tell ya! I want to keep incubating and hatching to get more pullets-I have 75% roos all in total :-( Worse comes to worse I will process them at an early age 10-12 weeks or so-Can someone give me a few pointers as to what I should charge and do you think I may get stuck with all my roo's? My DH has put his foot down and said no more because he is afraid we will be totally stuck with all these roosters forever-is he right? Be totally honest-I need the truth and any relevant stories-I can handle the loss and give up for this year-maybe

I can't give my roos away and a lot of them are rare breeds, heck I have 2 tufted/rumpless araucana that cost me quite a bit and I can't give them away

. I don't know if you can get that for them, I don't know how much people pay for the ones they eat.....

I called the poultry leader of my local 4-H and offered the roosters free to any kids who want to raise them. I heard from others here that they have always been able to give away roos that way.
Are yours pure breeds? I think the kids want to show them.
good luck!

Ok I said not too harshly-ouch..LOL..Thank you for your honesty.I guess Ill have to cave and not put anymore eggs in bator-and I think I will have to process too! bleah but I will if I dont sell them-Mine are not rare but they are pure and pretty! I got away with another 8 in the bator before I got cut off!!!

I believe most are pure-we dont have any local 4-H clubs here-I think the closest is 2 hours away?? Ill look into it though-thank you for your help

my dh is one of my worst enablers, and he doens't even eat eggs

. He knows how much I enjoy them and likes to see me happy, and I LOVE to hatch. I have a bunch of 6 weekers that are pure breeds, some pretty golden cuckoo marans roos, and I can't get rid of them. I told him I was putting my foot down and not let him encourage me to get more eggs, no matter how bad I want them

eta- Oh, and I rationalized like that last year and still have a dozen extra *rare* roos running around, I just can't sell them for food, but would give them to someone for theirs girls.....only got rid of 2 in the past few weeks.........

My Dh knows I love them too-we have gone from 4 chickens last year to 50+ in the last 3 months! He has built me a huge beautiful coop-big brooders-and all-I dont blame him for not wanting anymore-Im caving for him since he was so good to me-he did say not until the chicks are all outside and we get rid of the ones we are not keeping-so maybeee....no I better call it quits for now :-( with all those extra roos-is there alot of fghting and crowing-thats one of the maor problems-all the crowing he does not want to deal with...

Sorry, I think I'm with your hubby on this one. Have the eggs for breakfast until you are down to just one roo less than you want. Then you will NEED to hatch some eggs!

(If none of my pullets turn out to be boys I will be looking for a roo or two.)
